From the supplier

Cayenne Long Slim Seeds: Reliable and Great for Cooking

Popular the world over, these chilies are of a medium heat: 30–50K SHU. This makes them ideal for culinary use. Spicy enough to upset most people if they eat them whole, but not dangerous, they are the perfect choice for anyone who wants a homegrown supply of chilies to cook with.

Growing long and slim (as the name suggests), these wrinkled pods with an unusual, often twisted shape grow reliably and in good quantities, making them very suitable for home cultivation.

How To Grow Cayenne Long Slim Chilies

  • Step 1: Germination

Though other options exist, you’re best off germinating your chili seeds directly in their final pots. To do this, poke a hole around 1cm deep into the soil, place the seed in it, cover lightly, and water. Keep it moist from now on, but don’t get it too wet.

Seeds require high humidity in order to germinate. The best way to achieve this when germinating in a pot is to cover it with cling film with holes punched in it. Also, for best results, keep the soil temperature at around 25–28°C.

How long does a chili seed take to germinate? This depends on many factors, and can range from 3 days to a few weeks. Generally, hotter chilies take longer to germinate.

  • Step 2: Patience

A tomato feed is good enough to keep them going; just follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Don’t overwater or overfeed them. To keep them in top health, consider adding calcium via a foliar spray.

How and When To Harvest Cayenne Long Slim Chilies

After about 85 days, they should be ready, and the whole plant should stand around 75cm tall. The pods themselves should be around 12cm long. However, pot size and other factors will dictate the exact life cycle of the plant. Therefore, go by the chilies themselves to judge harvest time.

Once they turn red, wait a few more days, and then try plucking them from the plant. If they come off easily, they’re ready. If not, wait a couple of days and try again.

A Word of Warning

When handling chilies and their seeds, use caution. Gloves or tweezers are advisable to avoid pepper burn. Long, thin cayenne pods dry and grind well, whereas Jalapeño M Seeds give thick-walled fruits at 5,000 to 15,000 SHU that are better used fresh. Our chilli and pepper seeds cover every pod shape from stubby to whip-thin.
