Super Pedro (4 Ribs) - A Rare Mescaline Cactus With a Rich History
Super Pedro is well-known among Echinopsis enthusiasts, both for its beautiful flowers (which only open at night) and high mescaline content. And while many have been lucky enough to spot a Super Pedro cactus with 5–9 ribs, most have only read about or seen pictures of the unique 4-ribbed Super Pedro. Now, however, you can easily grow your own 4-ribbed Super Pedro cactus at home, with this 25–30cm cutting.
Super Pedro or Echinopsis scopulicola, is a fast-growing cactus native to the Andes Mountain range in South America. It typically grows in areas between 2,000–3,000m above sea level in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru, although it can also be cultivated in other parts of the world. Four-ribbed Super Pedro cacti are extremely rare, as only old varieties are believed to produce such few ribs.
Healthy, mature Super Pedro cacti produce beautiful, large white flowers that open at night and typically last for 2–3 days, and also contain high concentrations of different alkaloids, the most well-known being mescaline.
