From the supplier

Galangal (Alpinia officinarum): A Unique Ginger Variety Central to Southeast Asian Culture

Galangal is commonly used in the traditional cuisines of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. There are four different varieties of galangal (Alpinia galanga, Alpinia officinarum, Boesenbergia rotunda, and Kaempferia galanga), all with distinct aromas and flavours, which, in traditional Asian culture, are not considered interchangeable. Alpinia officinarum is arguably the most commonly used variety of galangal and the easiest to procure. Galangal can be used in similar ways as common ginger, either fresh or preserved in a variety of dishes, to make tea and other brews, as well as to create holistic preparations. Staying underground, Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is the other well-known root here, packed in 25 grams against galangal's 50. See how they line up with the rest of our relaxing roots and herbs.
