Holly Tree (Ilex guayusa): Packed With Caffeine, Vitamins, and Antioxidants
If you enjoy drinking yerba mate, you might have heard of holly tree (Ilex guayusa), which belongs to the same family of plants and is often compared to its more famous sister. Also stemming from South America, particularly common to the Amazon rainforest, holly tree has been known and used by local people for over 2,000 years, both for religious and recreational practices.
The leaves contain caffeine as well as vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids, whose properties are well-known and highly esteemed. Zamnesia offers holly tree in 50g packets of shredded, dried leaves, ideal for making a tea. The flavour of the brew is grassy and sweet—far less bitter than that of yerba mate, thanks to a lack of tannins. There are also fruity undertones present, for a very pleasant experience overall.
To brew your tea, boil fresh water in a kettle. Once the water is boiling, pour over 1 tablespoon or 2g of shredded holly tree leaves into a cup, and allow to steep for 5–7 minutes, or 10 minutes for a stronger brew. You can also enjoy this drink cold, after cooling it down and pouring it into a glass with ice.
The product is not suitable for children under 18 or pregnant women. Keep out of reach of children, and store in a cool, dry place. Loose teas and capsules alike are grouped in our energy selection. Also a leaf you brew, Ginkgo biloba comes from a tree rather than an Amazonian holly.
