Ginkgo biloba - Shredded leaves of the living fossil
The Ginkgo tree is one of the oldest types of trees in the world with no close living relatives. Ginkgo is often called a living fossil, because there were fossils found that are recognizably related to the modern Ginkgo. The oldest were from the Permian, dating back 270 million years. The Chinese consider Ginkgo a sacred tree. The main active compounds in the leaves of the Ginkgo tree are flavo-glycosides: kaempferol, quercetin, isorhamnetin, and proantho-cyanidins.
Ginkgo sits in the longevity corner of the Healthshop as the elder statesman. Curious how the living fossil earned the title? Our guide on getting the most out of ginkgo biloba tells the story, and the Quercetin Extract covers the flavonoid side of the same shelf.
Several studies show that taking Ginkgo extracts or drinking Ginkgo tea can be significantly beneficial when it comes to memory enhancement. Those who suffer from a lack of memory or have difficulties in remembering things often show improvement when consuming Ginkgo on a regular basis.
Another big benefit when drinking Ginkgo tea is in raising the energy level - drinking just two cups of tea per day will make you feel more alert and energetic. This is backed by studies showing Ginkgo helps with fatigue. Ginkgo leaves come loose for brewing, and our energy range holds plenty of other plants in tea form. For something you swallow rather than steep, Power 5 Mushroom Capsules hold extract from five species, Lion's Mane and Chaga among them.

These shredded leaves come from a tree with 270 million year old fossil relatives, easily the oldest species in our herb range, and the supplement counterpart on that same ageing shelf is Vitamin E Softgels.
