Mint, or Mentha, is a large genus of aromatic plant species renowned for their fresh, cool aromas and flavours. Our mint essential oils are made using a careful, slow distillation process that preserves as many of the plant's aromas and properties as possible, resulting in a lovely, fully fragrant oil that'll revive any space with its fresh, sweet aroma.

The mint family is believed to comprise up to 24 different species, though distinguishing individual varieties isn't always clear or easy. This is due, at least in part, to the plant's wide distribution and the natural hybridisation that occurs between different mint species that grow in the same region. Mint plants generally produce large leaves that grow in opposing pairs, with long flowers that are white and purple in colour. Simply brushing against a few mint leaves is all it takes to release the plant's strong aroma into the air.

Today, mint is used in cuisines all around the world, from the Middle East and India to Britain and the Americas. In Northern Africa, mint tea is central to social life, especially throughout the Maghreb region and among the Taureg people of Algeria, Libya, Niger, and Mali. Mint was also used in ancient Greece as a topical, and was thought to fortify a person's strength. The Greeks also considered mint to be the herb of hospitality and spread it out over the floors of their homes to release its delicious scent into the air—not too different from how we use mint essential oils to deodorise and freshen up our homes or offices today.

How to Use Mint Essential Oil

Each 10 ml bottle of oil contains 100% mint essential oil that is made using a slow distillation purpose that's vital for preserving the plant's aromas and properties. Zamnesia mint essential oil is designed to be used in diffusers and oil burners for aromatherapy—3–5 drops is enough to completely renew the energy and aroma of any room. An Abalone Shell does a completely different job, holding a smouldering smudge stick rather than drops of oil.
