Zamnesia - Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil: A Fragrant Gift From the Pacific
Ylang-ylang flowers have more to them than just their beautiful, vibrant yellow colour—they are naturally packed with terpenes and other aromatic compounds that have earned ylang-ylang a long-standing role as a prime ingredient in perfumery and aromatherapy. Its aroma is best described as sweet and floral, reminiscent of jasmine and rose but with unique fruity overtones and hints of musky spice.
Native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia, some Pacific Islands, and northern Australia, ylang-ylang (or Cananga odorata) is a large tree that gets its name from the Tagalog word for "wilderness". It produces long, stalked, and drooping flowers with a beautiful yellow colour and a rich, aromatic essential oil. Though native to warm and humid rainforests, ylang-ylang is now cultivated around the world, particularly in temperate climates. And while it is mainly grown to produce ylang-ylang essential oil, ylang-ylang flowers also have some cultural significance in the areas that the tree is native to.
In the Philippines, for example, ylang-ylang flowers are commonly used in leis that are worn, given out as gifts, or used as temple decorations. In Indonesia, ylang-ylang flowers are often used at weddings. In some areas, its flowers and essential oils are also used to promote well-being. Our essential oil, however, has been specially crafted for aromatherapy and is best added to oil burners, diffusers, or diluted in spray bottles. While there are many different uses for ylang-ylang, aromatherapists usually use this oil to elevate the mood of any room.
How to Use Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil
Zamnesia's ylang-ylang essential oil is made using fragrant ylang-ylang flowers that are carefully distilled to form a pure, high-quality essential oil rich with the plant's natural aromas and properties. For the best results, add 3–5 drops of ylang-ylang oil to a diffuser or oil burner to quickly perfume any space. Alternatively, add ylang-ylang oil to a spray bottle filled with water and use as a natural misting spray or perfume. Distilled from timber rather than blossoms, Zamnesia's Sandalwood Essential Oil is the warm counterpart to this tropical floral.
