Pellets from Zhejiang: Gunpowder Tea (Camellia sinensis)
Gunpowder Tea takes its name from the small, dense, pearl-like pellets the leaves are rolled into after harvest. Each pellet is a shiny anthracite colour, tightly compressed to protect the aroma until it hits hot water. The plant behind it, Camellia sinensis of the family Theaceae, is native to mainland South and Southeast Asia and has been cultivated in Zhejiang Province, China, for centuries. The leaves and leaf buds are the parts used, and this variety has been valued in Chinese tea culture since the Tang Dynasty. Compared to standard loose-leaf green teas, the pellet form preserves aroma more effectively before brewing.
Brewing Gunpowder Tea
Add the pellets to a cup or teapot and pour hot water over them. As they steep, the pellets slowly unfurl, releasing a nutty, smoky flavour and an intense earthy aroma that is noticeably stronger than most loose-leaf green teas. The taste is mild, full-bodied, and round, with a very slight smoky note throughout. If the smokiness feels too forward, a little honey softens it without masking the character. The pellets also work well as the base for a mint tea blend, or added to a smoothie for an earthy, aromatic note. One thing to keep in mind: the aroma is genuinely intense, so start with fewer pellets than you think you need until you know the strength you prefer.

At 180 C this is the neutral base most blends want, and the 100 g pack is the largest in the vape herbs range. Hops Flowers adds a mildly bitter note at 160 C, and Chamomile is the softer, apple-sweet partner.
